ATSC 3 Single Frequency Networks and Virtualization

ABSTRACT

Tuesday's session will address the confluence of Single Frequency Networks (SFNs) and the move to Virtualization in the television broadcasting industry.  It will start with the fundamentals of ATSC 3 SFNs as they relate to the more specific topics to be covered, continue with a presentation on Virtualization of Broadcast Gateways and some of the challenges that must be overcome in software-based SFN implementations, consider some specialized extensions of SFN applications that can be enabled through use of virtualized Broadcast Gateways, and conclude with a discussion of how enhanced SFN performance can be achieved through use of Core Networks.
