Karl Paulson

Karl Paulsen, Chief Technology Officer, Diversified.

Karl Paulsen has been involved in broadcast television management, operations, engineering design and consulting since the late 1970s.  He was the original corporate director of engineering for KTZZ-TV, Ch22, Seattle (1984-1989).  Karl later assisted with the creation of Digital Post & Graphics, a CGI and VFX post-production company and in 1995 moved into Systems Integration as Director of Engineering at Synergistics Technologies, Inc (STI) until acquired by AZCAR in 2000.  At AZCAR he held its CTO position through June 2010 when he joined Diversified as its CTO.  His career placed him as the technology leader for several large projects at Sinclair Broadcast, MSNBC, ABC’s transition to HD-TV, Monday Night Football, and other global customers’ projects.

In addition to serving on the SMPTE committees who created the IP 2110 Standards, Karl was an integral part of the IP Showcase (NAB & IBCs) and its associated Interoperability pre-staging sessions which demonstrated the feasibility and capabilities of IP for live, studio quality broadcast.

Karl regularly contributes to TV Technology’s TV TECH magazine penning both his Storage Technologies and the CloudSpotter’s Journal columns.  He is a SMPTE Fellow, SBE Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer and a member of IEEE, AES, AMWA and VSF forums.
