BTS COMAR Representative Role

Society Chair and Committee Roles

The BTS COMAR representative is appointed by the BTS president. 

BTS is one of five IEEE societies that have liaisons to the IEEE Committee on Man and Radiation (COMAR), a group of experts on health and safety issues related to electromagnetic fields. COMAR was formed in 1972 and typically meets twice a year in conjunction with the IEEE International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES).  COMAR  strives to keep the general public informed on pertinent matters regarding human exposure to non-ionizing electromagnetic energy.  

  • The BTS Liaison is responsible for representing the global broadcast industry on both COMAR and ICES as a subject matter expert.  

  • The BTS Liaison is responsible for participating in standards development activities including RF safety measurement protocols, units of measurement, RF safety mitigation plans, and hazard communication.  

  • The Liaison is also responsible for participating in the development of Technical Information Statements (TIS) and other material for use by broadcasters, government agencies, journalists, and members of the public, as well as providing information and feedback to the BTS AdCom concerning related issues that may impact the global broadcast industry.  

  • Chair will write a meeting summary for the newsletter after attending any meetings/events.
